Just saw a statistic that we take less vacation than other developed countries and that many people are afraid of taking vacation because they might lose their job or look bad. Just another example of our kind, supportive society at work. All work and no play makes Jack a head case.
This Protestant work ethic gives us a lot of headaches and generates a lot of humorless workaholics who don't know how to connect on any other level other than work.

More Tax Cuts for the Rich
If you're a middle class person you should not be even getting close to considering voting for a candidate who will give more tax cuts to the richest in our society. This scam perpetuated by the one of the major parties is simply a way to, you guessed it, siphon more money to the rich, leak a meager trickle down to you and limit your ability to buy beer. Don't believe me? How well are you and your middle class friends doing versus the executives at Exxon/Mobil? Remember what you were paying for gas when these clowns took office? How about milk, heating oil, natural gas...
Why do people vote against their own self interest? All you have to do is look at outcomes. Who's getting richer and who's benefiting the most from policies. It ain't Joe Sixpack. Google how much the Vice President's stocks have gone up since he's been in office for a glimpse at what I'm talking about.

Voting Your Interests
Next time you vote you might want to consider voting for people who will actually help you and your family get ahead. The proof is always in the results. Are the rich getting richer at the expense of the middle class? Is the middle class healthy and enjoying upward mobility? Are the leaders creating more poor people? Results speak much louder than any words about how well the country is doing.
Also, denying people the right to abortion or instituting prayer in schools will not put food on your table or get you a better job.

Home Schooling
This movement comes from the same school of thought that strives to keep family secrets and mistrusts the outside world. Don't believe me? Research the profile of people who home school, their religious beliefs and their level of comfort with the outside world.
Home schooling can be fine, just not if it's based on fear or isolation. If you are looking for ways to keep your children from experiencing the rich an diverse outside world you are the type of person I'm talking about. If you home school out of the fear that the outside world will discover your secrets or harm your children you are the type of person I am talking about.
If you home school because of religious beliefs, I'm talking about you. Likewise if you are trying to control the information that reaches your children from those outside evil sources.
Love and education is about openness and joy; not fear, control and mistrust.

Those Elite Rednecks
People talk and talk about how the elites want us to be a certain way. Good grief. You mean to tell me there isn't a code of behavior and dress in any country western bar that is strictly enforced. Conform or be cast out and rag on those elites with their cliquish ways. This also applies to the conduct and dress code in any middle class or working class neighborhood, period. Ever try to be different in middle america, crushing.

Debunking Conservatives
Try this sometime. Ask a conservative to explain one of their points of view by walking you through a logical breakdown of how it works. For example, cutting taxes. Ask them to show you how all this money gets given by the rich people to the poor. Make sure they tell you about all the ways the poor are benefiting and how great all the jobs and benefits are for the working class. Ask them to elaborate on how we will pay for growing services to a growing population with a shrinking tax base. Ask them who benefits the most from tax cuts. I'm sure it's the person working at the fast food place.
I think you will find it interesting what happens when you ask a conservative to explain something beyond ideology. It's one thing to say, "The tax cuts have grown the economy," it's another to describe what sectors have grown and who has benefited. I'm sure the fast food worker is enjoying the benefits of the food and gas prices these tax cuts have helped bring about.
Always ask yourself, "Who is really benefiting from this policy?"
